Help Running Bowstrings Accounting from Workstation

Hi All,

I hope you can help, you may be our last chance.

We have Bowstrings Accounting (running KCML6).
It was installed on the server (a windows xp box :0} )
The box died and we recovered the data to a new server (Windows Home Server)
We had to get a new license lic.txt from KCML

The program runs fine from the server but when you launch it from a workstation connected via network. (basically a network shortcut to the program on the desktop)
it throws a machine ID license problem.

It worked this way perfectly before the server died.

Trouble is bowstrings no longer exist (they wrote the accounting program), adp.com (owns kcml) have helped but cannot work it out either.

Hi Austin.

Its going to be a bit tricky to help without more info, and im about to head off for two weeks.

Are the pc's users who are trying to connect to the new server, using exactly the same links/shortcuts etc as before the system was recovered?

Is the machine name of the server the same as the old one?

Would it be possible to have a screen shot of the error? and what to ADP/Kerridge say about the error?

Windows in my experience has more issues getting thigns working for KCML than on a Unix style machine.

Im just taking a quick break to answer, so my response might not be very thorough. I never worked on the payroll system, but as you wil see from my sig, I did used to work for Bowstrings.

Thanks for the reply.

I managed to fix it myself in the end. (With a little help from ADP/KCML)

The problem was the the new lic.txt we had from ADP was in the wrong format.
Once that was resolved, I found that the licence server wasn't running on the server.
Sorted that one out and then had to remap drives because the Bowstrings is hard coded with T: drives (thats poor)
Much "fiddling" and we are up and running.

The good thing is, now I have a pretty good idea of how KCML/Bowstrings Accounting works.
